Introduction

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
RESIDENCE: A hall in Asgard, a lavish home in Stockholm, Sweden.

Sif’s Asgard home is Bilskirnir, Thor’s hall in Thrudheim. Well, one could call it her home, she lives there with her husband, when he desires to bless her with his company, and she raised her children there. But it is really Thor’s home, the home of a warrior, with little comfort. The largest hall in Asgard, it contains 540 rooms, 539 of which are decorated with his tastes in mind. Heads of all the beasts he has ever slain over the centuries adorn the walls (those whose heads are not smashed beyond recognition, that is), along with spears, swords, shields, arrows, and other tools of bloodshed. One wall remains bare; Thor insists it remain that way. When he slays Jormungand, the serpent, in their final battle, his sons will be able to hang the carcass in remembrance of his final great feat. The last room is Sif’s private dressing room and bath, which she has draped in lace and soothing, muted pastels in an explosion of femininity.

Sif is all about luxury, and her private apartment in Stockholm reflects this. In sharp contrast to Bilskirnir, her Midgard home is opulent and modern, if not a bit ostentatious. It has warmth Bilskirnir could never have, even with all 540 fireplaces blazing at once on a July afternoon. Gold is her accent of choice, and the eye is dazzled by the amount of thesheer wealth of her decorating endeavors. Rich burgundy and ivory fabrics cover the majority of her furniture choices, because, really, nothing shows off gold like the color of wine. As if trying to forget years of cooking large pots of stew over a fire, her kitchen has every modern appliance imaginable, and she makes full use of it.

PERSONALITY: Sif has no illusions about her place in the Æsir. She is unimportant enough in her own right, but she is the wife of one of the greatest gods in Asgard. That often puts her in the position of gracious hostess, a role she falls into easily enough. She is friendly and outgoing, and knows how to put on a smile and welcome the unfavored in the same manner she would a good friend. She has a honey-coated tongue, but it can be sharp as Odin’s spear when she is provoked.

If Sif has any fame of her own, it is her striking beauty, second only to Freyja among the Æsir, and if she has a sin, it is her vanity. She is always coiffed and polished, like a beautiful porcelain doll. She would rather die than be caught by surprise in a less than perfect state. Appearances really are everything. She can look just as stunning in jeans and a sweater as in a Bob Mackie original, of which she owns several. Her boudoir would leave any Hollywood starlet weeping in shame and envy. There is no famous couture designer she doesn’t know on a first name basis, no make up she hasn’t tried. But only the very best may touch her famous hair. In her mind, one of the greatest downfalls of human mortality is the need to change hairdressers. She finds the perfect one, and then they have to go and get too old to manage the pins, or just plain die on her. She almost takes it as a personal affront to her perfection when that happens.

Despite her stunning looks, one thing Sif is not is a stereotypical blond bombshell with the brains of a gnat. If she seems a bit flighty, it is only because her mind needs constant stimulation, or she is quickly bored. She often takes up new hobbies, only to drop them after a couple months because they lose their novelty. She has a basic knowledge in many things, but is an expert at none. She enjoys gossiping, laughing, and drinking coffee with friends as much as spending quiet time alone. She is as likely to be reading a romantic novel as a biography of a great historical figure, however dry it may be.

HISTORY: Sif is the wife of Thor, God of Thunder, and mistress of Bilskirnir. Their marriage has never really been a great one, especially since the night of the great dinner. Loki’s accusations left a rift in their relationship that has never been repaired. Not that it hadn’t been wounded before. Thor was always suspecting her of infidelity. She has always mostly more or less been faithful, though perhaps not by choice. Who would be fearless (or stupid) enough to try to seduce the wife of the mighty Thor? But deep down, she knew if the opportunity presented itself, her resolve might not be so strong. Especially if it was him that initiated it. But that was long ago, buried in a past that can never be reborn. Be that as it may, many nights she awakens, drenched in sweat, knowing she has dreamed of him and what they once shared.

Her hair really is her crowning glory. When her own locks were cut off by Loki on her wedding night, while she and her groom slept, she felt a horror she had never known before. Imagine, waking up in the morning, wearing the mark of a whore! Thor’s roar of rage could be heard through all Midgard that morning. Loki had been forced to fix it, which he did with a magical replacement made by the Dwarves, crafted out of pure gold. When placed on her head, it took root and became as her own, if even more beautiful than before.

She loves living in the lap of luxury; something Thor has never denied her. She occasionally takes on modeling jobs for the fun of it, and a little extra spending money for her “trinkets”. It makes her feel good to know some of what she owns, she earned by herself. And she loves to flaunt what she has before the camera. She spends most of her time in Sweden now, with the exception of the years of the Black Death in the 1300’s. She chose to stay in Asgard during those years, not because she was susceptible of course, but because it is really boring with nothing to do but watch everyone around you die. She still goes back to Asgard occasionally, to visit her friends, or upon her husband’s request if he will be home for a time or having guests. Then she falls back into her dutiful job as his wife. She supposes it is the least she can do for him. He makes it possible for her to continue her lavish lifestyle.

MISCELLANEOUS: Sif is a prophetess, though not of Frigg’s caliber. She has the ability to transform into a swan, and is able to cast enchantments through the braiding of her magical hair.
